Ohh NY NY

New York Fashion Week for the Fall-Winter 2013 season has just ended, and even though I followed the shows on my computer screen while wishing I was there, almost touching the models walking down the runways, I can say it was not less than extraordinary (see for example the amazing details from 3.1 Phillip Lim - first 3 above and model Marina Deleeuw in the second 3 in Derek Lam, Rag & Bone and Proenza Schouler, by the way - I think she's the next big thing!).

The magic for me in New York Fashion Week is always the tension between rough and soft, between street and intelligent high chic, between simple and over the top, or if I need to sum it up to more concrete terms - between leather and lace.

I admire the fact that many designers keep walking on this thin line, but still never look back and being nostalgic or doing the same things that worked before, but looking forward and inventing themselves once again. It was really a big celebration of fashion, so inspiring, the way I love it the most.

Vuitton, Chess and amazing Genes

As expected, the Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2013 collection hit the magazines editorials as well as the red carpet. These days are full of red carpet events, due to the fact we are at the peak of the awards season that will come to its end with the Oscars on February 24th, but in the fashion industry they are celebrating all the time, especially now when we are entering the fashion weeks season. I love surfing the web looking at pictures from all kinds of parties and of course see who wore what on the red carpets.

The Louis Vuitton Spring-Summer 2013 collection on the runway

The thing I love the most in this habit of mine is looking how the runways looks I memorized so well (just kidding, but there are just so many collections you can't forget) are interpreted to "real life" and "real women". Of course most of them are far from real, but still, it's not a model on the runway but a woman who usually has her own taste, proportions and attitude.

Ok, I'm getting to the point. Back to the Louis Vuitton collection I was talking about (pics above). So when this plaid-squares-chess collection hit the runway just a few months ago, it was obvious that all the celebrities and fashion icons will wear these looks at some point. I agree it was an amazing collection (not my favorite, but still..), but on the red carpet it seemed like the celebrities just wanted so much to embrace it, it turned out quite boring...

But then I bumped into a picture from one of the many events of a girl wearing a jumpsuit from this iconic collection and she was absolutely amazing (the first pic on this post). It was the first time I saw a real personality with this king of clothes, and not just an imitation of the runway looks. So because I didn't recognize this gorgeous woman, I decided to do a little research and check who she was.

Don't know how I missed her

Her name is Elettra Wiedemann and she is a model I didn't hear about (surprisingly). And then I dug-in some more and found out her full name is Elettra Rossellini Wiedemann. She is the daughter of the past model, actress and muse - Isabella Rossellini (!!!!), so it means she is the granddaughter of the even more iconic amazing actress - Ingrid Bergman (!!!!) and the Italian great director Roberto Rossellini. What an amazing genes I thought to myself. It's not surprising now that the third generation blew me away.

So now I’m leaving you with these unbelievable genes. Hope you’ll enjoy!
